Introduction to Polyvagal Theory, Matthias Schwenteck
YouTube
Polyvagal theory, proposed by Stephen Porges, explores the role of the autonomic nervous system, particularly the vagus nerve, in regulating emotions, social connection, and stress responses, focusing on how we perceive and respond to safety and threat. This video explores the states outlined in this theory, namely: ventral vagal; sympathetic; and dorsal vagal. Our movement between these states depends on perceived safety in any given situation. This video also helps us to understand what each state look likes and how to identify which state we are in. Having an awareness of our current state of being allows us to consciously move back toward an experience ease and safety.
