Meet the Team

Meet our small team of contributors who make it all happen.

Dr. Nicole Freris

Founder

Dr. Nicole Freris (MBBChir, MRCP, MRCGP), is a physician with 35 years of experience whose career has been dedicated to bridging the profound wisdom of traditional healing and an integrated systems approach, with modern medical science. Her journey began with conventional training at Cambridge and Middlesex University Hospital, leading to membership with the Royal Colleges of Physicians and General Practitioners. A transformative decade spent working with indigenous communities in the Brazilian Amazon fundamentally reshaped her perspective. This experience dismantled assumptions about “progress”, and revealed the interconnected nature of well-being and the vital role of nutrition, medicinal herbs, and ancestral knowledge.

Upon returning to the UK, Dr. Freris integrated these insights into her work as an inner-city GP while deepening her study of whole-systems health through permaculture design and western medical herbalism. For a decade, she collaborated closely with the renowned herbalist Christopher Hedley and was later invited to develop the core medical science curriculum for Heartwood Education. This synthesis of lifelong learning culminated in the creation of a teaching platform in Restorative Medicine. This approach moves beyond “firefighting” downstream diseases to engaging the body’s innate biological intelligence and capacity to heal. It focuses on understanding the root causes of imbalance to enlighten the path to health, opening a deeper understanding of what it means to be human. While developing and teaching Restorative Medicine to fellow practitioners, Dr. Freris continues her frontline work as an NHS GP, most recently establishing a pioneering pilot project in metabolic health.

Cassandra Wilkinson

Curriculum Collaborator – Jack of All Trades

Cassandra Wilkinson (MNIMH) is a Medical Herbalist accredited by the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH), with a background in environmental management. She spent several years working on biodynamic farms, cultivating a lived understanding of  complex, relational ecosystems. Her work is grounded in Western herbal medicine, with a particular interest in complexity. She is also a qualified meditation mentor, having trained under Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield, and has counselled at LifeLine Johannesburg – a non-profit organisation providing free mental health support. A hobbyist botanist and practising astrologer, Cassandra brings a nuanced appreciation of the symbolic, psychological, and embodied dimensions of the human experience.

As a clinician and educator, Cassandra situates the marvel of the human body not separate from, but firmly within nature, as part of the dynamic whole. While she respects scientific methodologies – her work is equally shaped by ways of knowing that extend beyond the purely rational. Through contemplative practices her perspective aims at integration and breadth, bridging the seen and unseen, the material and the imaginal, viewing the human being as a complex expression of relationship itself.
