Stress, Rhythm of Resilience, and Survival Physiology
Are we truly at ease?
What holds us in tension?
Is the body, heart, and soul nourished?
What imprints of fear and lack are being carried – actual, recent, early life and generational?
Webinar 1: Theory
In this first webinar we establish the foundational intelligence and interconnected systems that modulate the stress response from moment to moment. We learn about:
- The biological foundations of stress physiology – looking deep into the adrenal glands, their cortex and medulla and steroid hormones.
- The sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system and that interface between the nervous and endocrine system – the HPA axis.
- The inner voices deep in the brainstem, midbrain and cortex that assess and respond to a perceived threat,
- The cascade of hormonal and neurological messengers of the stress response.
- The downstream consequences on tissues, organs and cells of a chronically activated stress axis – our allostatic burden.
Includes:
- Slides – mind maps and illustrations
- Webinar Recording – approx. 90 min
- Audio (MP3) Download
- Third-Party Video: The Science of Safety and Regulation, Linda Thai
- Glossary of Terms
- Research Paper: Allostatic Load Biomarkers of Stress
- Handout: Downstream Consequences of an Activated Stress Axis
- Reflective Exercise
