Metabolic Dysregulation and Insulin

Introduction

‘Worldwide, obesity has nearly tripled since 1975.’

Today, most people live in a place where being overweight kills more people than being underweight. Worldwide, obesity has nearly tripled since 1975. Most alarmingly, prevalence among children is more common than ever before – even in children under the age of 5. In 2020, 39 million children under the age of 5 were overweight or obese.
Obesity is considered one of the most potent risk factors for type 2 diabetes where 80-90% of type 2 diabetes patients have been found to be overweight or obese. Your chances of developing other chronic illnesses likewise greatly increases when you’re overweight – heart disease, osteoarthritis, and cancer, to name a few. And the cost of treating these illnesses annually amounts to billions. Beyond the financial costs, the loss of quality of life is immeasurable.

This epidemic of weight gain and the consequent disease is a sign that something has gone terribly amiss. Nourishing our bodies is primary – a fundamental requirement for life. What does the distortion point to?

Luckily obesity and type 2 diabetes is completely reversible and preventable.

Day 45

Context, discussion, 60m.

In this conversation at the kitchen table, we pan back to look at the bigger context, of what has been elucidated in our study of the clinical picture. Here we seek to investigate broader scale patterns, the socio-cultural and political as well as the emotional and psychological that may have contributed to this physical imbalance. Thus, starting from the human body, we may glean some insights into where we find ourselves as a body of humanity – and how we got here.
