In the east, adrenals are appreciated as the repository of Kidney Yang fuelling the will and warmth of the body. From the Vedic lands they guard Ojas, the store of life's vital essence. Located above each kidney adrenals sit like little crowns wired into the sympathetic nervous system; from within their layers manufacturing the great range of steroid hormones from oestrogen to cortisol and the mineralocorticoids. The adrenals are in constant communion with other core homeostatic axes in the body, modulating the body’s tone as it shifts from alertness to ease and rest.
