Description

In course XII the immune system comes into focus as we try to understand the epidemic of immune disorders in the modern world. We start by revising some of the basic concepts from the lesson on the immune system in course II. We then unpack various clinical conditions that fit into the broad categories of allergy, hyper-sensitivity, and autoimmunity. The bulk the course is taken up by an exploration into a few of the most prevalent conditions dealt with in clinical practice looking at the pathophysiology, clinical presentations, contributing factors, and possible treatment strategies. These include asthma and eczema, rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus, as well as ankylosing spondylitis and psoriasis.
LESSONS:
  • XII(1): Immune Dysregulation Review
  • XII(2): Histamine and Atopy Eczema and Asthma
  • XII(3): Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
  • XII(4): Ankylosing Spondylitis and Psoriasis
